Autumn capsule wardrobe

It's been five years since I last tried a capsule wardrobe. Despite the benefits, it didn't stick, mostly because of boredom and laundry challenges. Yet, tracking my wears made me realize how I'm splitting my wears and that a lot of items don't get worn enough. Also, I would like to test what it feels like to have a capsule wardrobe again, after it's had some backlash the last couple of years. Now that I live with my partner, laundry is less of an issue.

  • This leaves clothing for at least 16 days without having to do laundry. Some items can be worn more than once, which probably stretches the wardrobe to 20 days.
  • Some of the cotton sweaters and cardigans will probably be traded out for wool versions once the temperature drops.
  • I did the math: Just the tops (13) + bottoms (5) and dresses (3) make 68 unique outfits! (I left the cardigans out since they are top layers, but obviously they will also make the outfits even more varied.)
  • I left out base layers such as tank tops and t-shirts I only use underneath shirts and sweaters, since I don't use them as a stand-alone pieces.
  • I'm already thinking that I need even less than this, but I'm sticking with it for three months, excited to see how things pan out.
  • 17 of the 25 = 68% is thrifted, inherited or from swap parties! Which actually mirrors my wardrobe pretty well (excluding shoes and underwear, which I buy new).
